No. 19 USC Women's Soccer Heads to No. 23 Washington State, Washington

LOS ANGELES – The No. 19 USC women's soccer team travels to The Evergreen State for matchups with No. 23 Washington State (Thursday, Sept. 28 at 5 pm) and Washington (Sunday, Oct. 1 at 1 pm).
HOW TO FOLLOW - Thursday's contest at Washington State will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Networks, and Sunday's match at Washington will be broadcast on Pac-12 Washington. SERIES VS WASHINGTON STATE - USC owns a 10-5-3 all-time record against Washington State. The Trojans are unbeaten in their last nine meetings (kept clean sheets in six of them), winning the most recent matchup 3-2 at McAlister Field on Oct. 30, 2022. USC's last loss in the series was a 2-0 home loss on Oct. 6, 2013.
SERIES VS WASHINGTON - USC owns a 12-4-2 all-time record against Washington. The Trojans' won their previous meeting 2-1 at McAlister Field on Oct. 27, 2022. USC is unbeaten in its last three matchups with the Huskies, last losing 2-0 on Oct. 27, 2019 in Los Angeles.
PAC-12 OPENER - USC started Pac-12 play with a 2-0 road victory last Friday against Utah in Salt Lake City. Zoe Burns notched a goal and an assist, setting up Kayla Colbert for the first in the 8th minute and scoring the second herself in the 38th. The victory was the Trojans' third consecutive in a Pac-12 opener and their first win in Salt Lake City since 2000.
NONCONFERENCE FINALE - The Trojans closed out nonconference play with a 3-0 win over New Mexico State at home last Thursday. USC got goals from three different players in the match (Helena Sampaio, Mary Flores, Kayla Colbert) and posted their third shutout of the season.
FLORES EARNS POTW HONORS - Following a 3-0 win over New Mexico State, Maribel Flores was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, USC's first honoree of the season. Flores' trio of goal contributions against the Aggies made her the first freshman to win the award in 2023. She assisted Helena Sampaio on the first goal of the afternoon, scored the second herself and set up Kayla Colbert for the third.
AWUJO CALLED UP - Simi Awujo was called up by the Canadian National Team for the winner-take-all CONCACAF Olympic Play-In series. Canada faces Jamaica over two legs on Sept. 22 & 26 for a spot in the 2024 Olympics in Paris. This is the 8th time Awujo has been called up to the Canadian National Team.
DOWNING DUKE - USC picked up a big win over then-No. 4 Duke earlier this season, taking down the Blue Devils 3-1 in Durham. USC fell behind 1-0 early, but stormed back with three unanswered goals to take the match. Maribel Flores scored the equalizer for her first collegiate goal in the 37th minute, Angeles Escobar (on her birthday) scored the winner in the 62nd and Kayla Colbert put it away with a goal in the 78th. It was USC's second win in two matches against a Top 5 opponent under Head Coach Jane Alukonis (the Trojans beat No. 1 UCLA 2-0 last year) and came against the USC head coach's alma mater.
BEST AGAINST THE BEST - USC has amassed a 5-1 record against ranked opponents under head coach Jane Alukonis. That includes three victories over top-10 oppoennts, a 3-0 win against No. 6 TCU (Sept. 1, 2022), a 2-0 win over No. 1 UCLA (Nov. 4, 2022) and a 3-1 win at No. 4 Duke (Aug. 24, 2023).
