USC Women's Volleyball's London Wijay Named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week

SAN FRANCISCO – USC women's volleyball OH London Wijay (Porter Ranch, Calif./Bishop Alemany HS) was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for the week of Sept. 11-17, the Conference announced on Monday, Sept. 18.

Wijay wins her first-career Pac-12 weekly award and brings home USC's 22nd all-time freshman honor. While freshman awards are not included as part of the total awards won by schools, USC has had 87 all-time weekly award winners. Since 2011, when the Pac-12 began honoring separate offensive and defensive players of the week and introduced a freshman award, Women of troy have earned 28 offensive awards, 13 defensive awards, and now 22 freshman honors.

Wijay helped spark the Trojans to a 3-2 win over Illinois and started against No. 17 Purdue to help USC go 2-0 at the Boilermaker Challenge. In three sets of action against the Illini, she collected four kills and had six digs. In her second-career start, Wijay racked up a career-best 18 kills against the Boilermakers with a .262 hitting percentage and added 12 digs for her first-career double-double. She averaged 4.50 kps in the Trojans' win over Purdue and received serve 36 times without a reception error on the weekend.
