Fourteen Trojans Compete In World Aquatics Water Polo World Championships
July 26, 2023 | Men's Water Polo, Women's Water Polo
Two USC alums score silver medals for their countries.
The 2023 World Aquatics World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, featured a haul of Trojan talent past and present. A grand total of 14 Trojans hit the water for their respective countries, with two USC alumni scoring silver medals. Both NCAA Champions as Trojans, Anni Espar (Spain) and Kostas Genidounias (Greece) added silver medals to their trophy cases, going along with Olympic silvers also won for their countries in Tokyo. Team USA Trojan Hannes Daube — also a 2020 Olympian — was named to the Media All-Star Team at the end of the event.
For Espar and Genidounias, their respective runs to the championship games secured their countries' qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games.

The United States and Australia rosters were where the most USC players appeared, with six current and former Trojans featured on Team USA rosters and five capped up for the Aussie teams. In addition to Espar and Genidounias representing Spain and Greece, respectively, USC alum Hayley McKelvey was capped up for Canada. See below for a list of Trojans on each national team at this year's World Championships.
