LOS ANGELES – The USC women's volleyball team has hired Garrett Geiger as an assistant coach to complete the staff ahead of the 2023 season, fourth-year head coach Brad Keller announced on Wednesday, Aug. 23.
"We are thrilled that Garrett will be joining our staff as an assistant coach for the fall," said Keller. "He has been part of our program for several years and is entrenched in our culture and values. His volleyball acumen is an incredibly valuable asset to our bench and we have seen him grow into this role as a coach since he joined us."
Geiger previously served as a practice player for the Women of Troy and receives his first appointment as a coach at the collegiate level. He has served as a camp coach in the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District at his alma mater Esperanza High School during the summer of 2019; and has served as a camp coach for USC's summer volleyball camps program.
As a student-athlete, Geiger was a member of the Hawai'i men's volleyball team as an outside hitter in 2020 and earned UH Scholar-Athlete recognition. He spent one year on the islands in the philosophy program at the university. Prior to UH, Geiger played at Fullerton College where he earned first-team All-CCCAA (California Community College Athletic Association) honors in 2019 and was a recipient of the Hornet Scholar Award.
A native of Southern California, Geiger is a 2017 graduate of Esperanza HS in Anaheim, Calif., where he earned letters in volleyball and basketball. He won the 2014 CIF volleyball championship and the 2017 CIF basketball championship with his respective squads. Geiger played for the Balboa Bay Volleyball Club for two years. After concluding his collegiate athletic career, Geiger attended USC for two years where he earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy in 2023.
The No. 22 Trojans open on the road at No. 19 Houston (Aug. 25) and No. 23 Rice (Aug. 26). The Women of Troy trek into Big Ten territory to face Illinois and No. 16 Purdue for the Boilermaker Challenge (Sept. 14-15), and then open their final season of Pac-12 play with a meeting against crosstown rival UCLA on Sept. 20.
