Head coach Casey Moon adds two coaching talents to his staff for 2023-24.
USC women's water polo brings two new assistant coaches to head coach Casey Moon's staff for 2023-24 with the addition of Bryce Hoerman and Stephen Loomis, Moon announced today (August 15). Hoerman and Loomis bring extensive experience to the pool deck for the USC women, who have made 19 straight trips to the NCAA Tournament entering the coming 2024 campaign.
Moon, who was named head coach of the USC women's program in June 2023, now has an accomplished pair of assistants on staff in Hoerman and Loomis. A 2018 graduate of USC, Hoerman has continued to coach and play water polo since helping the USC men make NCAA Tournament runs all four years in his time at Troy. Loomis, who was a 2012 All-American at Pepperdine, comes to USC after serving as an assistant coach at UC Santa Barbara.
"I am extremely excited and fortunate to have both Stephen Loomis and Bryce Hoerman join my women's water polo coaching staff," Moon said. "Both have immense water polo backgrounds that will translate immediately to the development of our student-athletes. Not only will Stephen and Bryce be able to share their own experiences with our student-athletes but they have the ability to guide and mentor and help me lead our women to uphold the Trojan Way of high standards and expectations for our program.
After graduating from Pepperdine, Loomis played professionally in Spain and Italy from 2013-18. His coaching career began at his high school alma mater, as he served as head coach of the De La Salle boys' team from 2017-19. He also worked with the CC United club program in the Bay Area before being named assistant coach at UC Santa Barbara in January 2021. He has additional coaching experience at Santa Barbara Premier, and his playing career continues as a member of New York Athletic Club.
"I'm humbled and grateful to have been chosen to be a part of the Trojan Family! The chance to engage with USC's storied tradition and to join Coach Moon's elite coaching staff is an incredible opportunity," Loomis said. "It's already clear to me that there's something special about the way things are done here at USC. I can't wait to get started!"
Hoerman, meanwhile, brings familiarity with the USC water polo program to his role as an assistant for the Women of Troy. Moon was serving as a men's assistant coach in Hoerman's freshman season at USC. As a Trojan, Hoerman played in four NCAA Tournament finals and accumulated 77 career goals. He has continued to compete as a member of LA Athletic Club and has gained coaching experience at Del Mar Water Polo Club and Manhattan Country Club.
"I am thrilled and honored to be an assistant coach for the USC women's water polo team," Hoerman said. "I am eager to collaborate with the talented athletes and coaching staff to continue the tradition of excellence at this university and within the water polo program. We have high expectations for the upcoming season with plenty of hard work ahead of us. I am looking forward to the challenge of coaching and proud to be a part of the Trojan Family."
"We here at USC have the vision to be the most student-athlete centered athletics department in the country, and with Stephen and Bryce on staff they will have an integral role helping our program move in that direction," Moon added. "I'm thrilled to see Stephen and Bryce join the coaching journey with me at USC. Fight On!"
