USC Lacrosse Earns IWLCA Academic Honor Squad Award
July 26, 2023 | Women's Lacrosse
Nine Women of Troy were named to the IWLCA's Division I Academic Honor Roll
NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The USC lacrosse team was chosen for the 2023 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Squad laurels on Wednesday, July 26. As one of 289 teams chosen across all three NCAA Divisions and the NAIA, it is the seventh time that the Women of Troy have earned Academic Honor Squad status and is the second in a row for USC.
Nine Trojans were also among 941 student-athletes from 96 different institutions honored on the 2023 IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll. Among those Women of Troy are senior defender Danielle Carson (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh HS), junior goalie Kait Devir (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood HS), senior defender Olivia Dooley (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset HS), senior attacker Ella Heaney (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City HS), junior defender Courtney Kuligowski (Great Falls, Va./Langley HS), senior midfielder Sloane Murphy (Denver, Colo./Colorado Academy), graduate midfielder Katie Ramsay (Darien, Conn./Darien HS), junior midfielder Claudia Shevitz (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier HS) and graduate defender Emma Wightman (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge HS).
The individual award requires student-athletes to be at least a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater. A women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.20 or higher team GPA for the 2021-22 academic year to qualify as an Academic Honor Squad.
USC was previously chosen as an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad in 2014, '16, '17, '18, '19, and '22. Ramsay is on the Academic Honor Roll for the third time ('21 & '22), while Carson, Dooley, and Murphy appeared on the honor roll for the second time ('22) in their careers. The other five Trojans make their debut on the academic honor roll. Carson, Devir, Dooley, Heaney, Kuligowski, Murphy, Ramsay, and Shevitz appeared on the Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll.
In 2023, the Women of Troy (16-4, 9-1 Pac-12) topped the Pac-12 conference, claiming the regular season title for the third time in program history. USC earned a trip to the NCAA tournament for the sixth time after winning its second Pac-12 tournament title. 11th-year head coach Lindsey Munday (139-58, .706) earned Pac-12 coach of the year after leading the Trojans to a near-perfect conference season.
