No. 17 USC Lacrosse to Face Undefeated Denver in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament

The Trojans clinched the Pac-12 Berth and will face the No. 5 seeded Pioneers in Denver, Colorado
LOS ANGELES - The USC lacrosse program (16-3, 9-1 Pac-12) earned the Pac-12 Conference's automatic qualifier berth to the 2023 NCAA Tournament on Sunday, May 7. The Women of Troy will make their sixth appearance in the tournament and face undefeated No. 5 Denver from the Big East conference (19-0, 6-0 Big East) in the opening round on Friday, May 12, in Denver, Colo., at 2 p.m. PT/5 p.m. PT airing live on ESPN+.

USC is the only West Coast team ever to reach the NCAA quarterfinal round (2016, '17) and was the first to host NCAA tournament games in 2016 as the fifth seed. The Trojans are 4-5 all-time in tournament games and made the tournament last year. In 2022, Virginia eliminated USC in a first-round game played in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Under 11th-year veteran coach Lindsey Munday, the 17th-ranked Trojans reclaimed sole possession of the Pac-12 regular season for the first time since 2019 and recorded back-to-back titles as they shared the 2022 trophy with Stanford. USC also took home the Pac-12 Tournament Title for the second time in program history, as it won the tournament in 2019. With this reśume, the Women of Troy swept most of the Pac-12 honors, as Munday claimed her second Pac-12 Coach of the Year award. Junior Claudia Shevitz earned Pac-12 Midfielder of the Year, junior Kait Devir was named the league's Co-Goalkeeper of the Year, and the conference gave graduate transfer Emma Wightman Defensive Player of the Year. USC secured nine spots on the Pac-12 All-Conference List, as five were named to the First Team, and four were placed on the Second Team. The First Team members were Shevitz, Wightman, (Sr.) Olivia Dooley, (RS So.) Isabelle Vitale and (So.) Catherine Lord. On the Second Team, it was Devir, (Jr.) Maggie Brown, (Sr.) Ella Heaney, and (Jr.) Shelby Tilton.
