USC Baseball Loses 7-5 to No. 17 Oregon Despite Late Lead

LOS ANGELES, CA --The USC baseball team took a 5-3 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hang on and fell 7-5 to the No. 17 Oregon Ducks on Saturday night at Dedeaux Field.
Sophomore Caden Aoki (3-1) started and took the loss on the mound for USC (26-20-1, 12-11). Senior Garrett Clarke was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 1.2 shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out four.
Freshman Bryce Grudzielanek led the way offensively for the Trojans, going 2-for-5 in the ballgame with a home run and an RBI. Junior Ryan Jackson furnished a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and two RBI. Senior Johnny Olmstead also chipped in, going 1-for-4 for USC with a home run and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Trojans first put runs on the board in the second inning. Olmstead put USC on the board with a leadoff home run off junior Logan Mercado.
USC scored twice on solo home runs from freshman Jacob Galloway and Grudzielanek in the third inning, which brought the score to 3-1 in favor of the Trojans.
Oregon came back to even the ballgame at three before USC reclaimed a 5-3 advantage in the sixth inning. The Trojans drove two runs across on a two-run double off the bat of Jackson that scored freshman Ethan Hedges and Galloway. The Trojans were unable to hold the lead, as Oregon scored four times over the remaining three innings to grab the 7-5 win.
