USC Rowing Finished Preliminary Heats of 2023 NCAA Championships

Pennsauken, N.J. – USC women's rowing finished day one of the 2023 NCAA Championship at the Camden County Boathouse on Friday, May 26. After two fifth place finishes and a fourth place finish all three Trojan boats advance to the C-D semifinal in which the top three boats in the C-D semifinal will advance to the C final and remaining boats to the D final on Sunday (May 28).
Day one of racing consisted of preliminary heats to determine the placement of boats in either the A-B semifinal or C-D semifinal. The top three boats in each heat advanced to the A-B semifinal while remaining boats will compete in the C-D semifinals on Saturday (May 27).

TROJAN BOATS
- Sr. Eden Cooper-Squires coxed for the Trojan's Varsity Eight. Zoe McCutcheon sat the stroke seat for the Trojans. Succeeding the stroke seat was Celia Marino, Grete Alttoa, Claudia Cabula, Caroline Munch, Annabel Aron, Jenna Van de Grift, and Ingrid Brast.
- Sr. Lillian Lau coxed for the Second Varsity Eight. In the stroke seat was Grace Eamer. Following Eamer was Raquel Rodriguez, Clare Widzgowski, Jemima Morgan, Chiara Meakin, Isabella Lysaker, Anastasiia Slivina, and in the bow was Zuzanka Pazourkova.
- Fr. Dana Shearer sat in the coxswain seat for the Varsity Four. The Trojans stroke seat was occupied by Sara Clarin. Then was Alex DeLisle, Anna Molnar and in the bow was Rhese Abrams.
- The Varsity Eight kicked off the championship weekend for the Trojans. Coxswain Eden Cooper-Squires guided the Trojans to a fifth-place finish with a time of 06:54.269. The Women of Troy were nineteen seconds behind fourth place Rutgers, with Scarlet Knight's time of 06:35.837.
- The Second Varsity Eight was next on the water for the Trojans. Coxswain Lillian Lau led the Women of Troy to fifth place with a time of 07:10.330. The Trojan boat was five seconds behind Indiana's boat with their fourth-place time being 07:05.820.
- The Varsity Four was the last race of the day for the Trojans. Coxswain Dana Shearer guided the Trojans to a fourth-place finish with a time of 08:07.578. The Women of Troy were twenty five seconds behind third place Michigan, with the Wolverine's time 07:42.806.
- "We had some tough races today in all three of our categories, but we learned a lot. For a good portion of the squad it was their first race ever at the NCAA Championships. Tomorrow is another opportunity to prove that we have better speed."
- The Women of Troy are back on the water tomorrow for the Semifinal races. The Varsity Eight kicks off racing in lane 2 at 8:12 am EST in the Division I: Eight Semi-Final 3. The Trojans take on Navy, Indiana, Duke, and Gonzaga
- The Second Varsity Eight will hit the water tomorrow racing in lane 2 at 9:12 am EST in the Division I: II Eight Semi-Final 4. USC lines up against Jacksonville, Syracuse, Rutgers, and Gonzaga.
- The Varsity Four will be the last race of Saturday (May 27) for the Trojans. USC's Four will race in lane 4 at 10:00 am EST in the Division I: Four Semi-Final 4.
- All boats must be in the top three to advance to the C final. The remaining boats will compete in the D final on Sunday (May 28).
