No. 10 USC Men’s Tennis Opens Another NCAA Run On Home Turf

Trojans host NCAA First and Second Rounds for the 16th straight time, looking to launch a deep run in NCAA play.
THIS WEEK
No. 10 USC (10-seed) is set to open up its 2023 NCAA campaign from home turf for the 16th straight time, hosting Idaho, UC Santa Barbara and San Diego for first and second round competition May 5-6 at Marks Stadium. On Friday (May 5), UC Santa Barbara and San Diego will start things off at 11 a.m., and at 2 p.m., USC will take on Idaho. Winning teams will square off in the NCAA Second Round at 2 p.m. on Saturday (May 6) to fight for a ticket to the NCAA Super Regional at sites to be determined.
The eight teams that advance out of that round will head to the USTA National for the remaining rounds of NCAA competition taking place May 18-20. So, too, will NCAA Individual Championships be held at Complex, with singles and doubles competition running May 22-27.

TROJANS IN THE RANKINGS
In the ITA's latest team rankings, USC moved up one spot to No. 10.
USC boasts four Trojans in the national singles rankings with senior Stefan Dostanic leading Troy at No. 32. Trojan sophomore Peter Makk locked in the No. 48 ranking while Wojtek Marek claimed the No. 100 ranking and Bradley Fryerounded out the field at No. 116.
USC also boasts the No. 11 ranked doubles pair in Stefan Dostanic and Bradley Frye. The Trojan duo of Frye and freshman Learner Tien also entered the rankings for the first time this week, checking in at No. 52.
TROJANS AT THE PAC-12 TOURNEY
Since the team event began in 2012, USC has won seven Pac-12 Tournament titles — 2012, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023 — and has reached the final every year but 2016. USC has faced UCLA five times in the title match, winning twice (2012 and 2017). In 2015, USC beat Stanford in the final, topped Cal in the 2019 title match and took down Arizona State to win the 2021 trophy. The 2020 tournament was not held due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Most recently, USC captured the 2023 Pac-12 regular season title and tournament championship, beating Oregon, No. 23 Stanford and No. 19 Utah.
SCOUTING IDAHO
Unranked Idaho emerges from the Big Sky Conference after securing their second straight conference title. The Vandals have an overall record 15-8 this season with a 5-2 record in conference play. Idaho is 1-2 against ranked opponents this season, with a victory over No. 55 New Mexico in February and loses to both No. 67 Air Force and No. 70 Northern Arizona. Idaho has no ranked singles or doubles players. The Trojans are 2-0 in their all-time series against Idaho.
SCOUTING UC SANTA BARBARA
No. 39 Santa Barbara enters the tournament as champions of the Big West Conference. Gauchos are 22-3 this season, with a 5-1 record in conference play. Santa Barbara has no ranked singles players and one ranked doubles pairing in No. 80 Phillip Jordan and Kai Brady. The Gauchos have played split against their two ranked opponents this season with a win against No. 28 Cal followed by a loss against No. 64 Oregon. The Trojans have never faced the Gauchos.
SCOUTING UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO
No. 30 San Diego enters the tournament following a loss to No. 37 Pepperdine in the West Coast Conference championship. USD is 17-7 this season, with an 8-1 record in conference play. San Diego has gone 6-5 in 11 matches against ranked opponents this season. San Diego has one ranked singles player in No. 84 Iiro Vasa and no ranked doubles pairings. The Trojans are 43-3 all time against San Diego.
