The Trojans were swept by the Bruins at Galen Center on Saturday night

LOS ANGELES – The 12th-ranked USC men's volleyball team (8-15, 1-9 MPSF) was swept (25-20, 25-17, 25-20) by crosstown rival No. 2 UCLA (25-2, 10-0) at Galen Center on Saturday, April 8.

KEY PLAYERS

Gr. OH Kevin Kobrine led the Trojans with nine points on eight kills and two blocks.
Sr. MB Kyle Paulson scored seven points with four blocks, two kills, and a career-best three service aces.
RS So. OH Jackson Reed came in to score four kills and two blocks including the only USC solo block of the match.
Sr. LIB George Dyer led the Trojans with seven digs and added a pair of assists.
Jr. S Nate Tennant posted 20 assists to go with four blocks, two digs, and a service ace.
For the Bruins, David Ido led with 17 kills (6e, 27att) on .407 hitting. Andrew Rowan led all players with nine digs and had four blocks, two aces, and a kill. Alex Knight added 11 kills (1e, 21att) to hit .476 with three digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Trojans led by as many as four points at 10-6 and held a late lead at 18-17, but UCLA used an 8-2 run to claim a 25-20 win in the first set. Kobrine had four of USC's nine kills and Paulson racked up all three of his aces in the opening frame. The Bruins hit .333 and scored 20.5 points on 16 kills and 3.5 blocks.
UCLA never trailed in the second set and rolled away to a 25-17 win behind six kills from Ido. Knight added four kills as the Bruins put up 18.0 points with 14 kills on .524 hitting and posted three more blocks. USC had nine kills and managed just three digs amidst UCLA's offensive barrage.
Reed scored all four of his kills and produced 5.5 points in the third set, but UCLA outscored USC, 19.0 to 13.0, to get a 25-20 win to secure the sweep. The Bruins racked up four more blocks and hit .370 in the third.

UP NEXT

USC closes the regular season with a home-and-home against Concordia (8-16). The Trojans take on the Eagles at CU Arena on Thursday (April 13) and then host the Eagles for the regular-season finale at Galen Center on Saturday (April 15). Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m. PT starts and will be live streamed on Stretch Live and the USC Live Stream platform respectively. The Men of Troy will celebrate their senior class of George Dyer, Lucas Frassrand, Simon Gallas, and Kevin Kobrine in post-match ceremonies.

MATCH NOTES

USC fell to 46-104 in 150 all-time meetings with UCLA and lost its sixth straight match against the Bruins.
The Trojans dropped to 2-15 in matches against AVCA ranked opponents this spring. All of USC's losses have come against ranked foes.
