USC’s Bayley Weber Wins MPSF Player of the Year, Marko Pintaric Earns Third Straight MPSF Coach of the Year Pick
April 26, 2023 | Women's Water Polo
Weber is joined by Paige Hauschild and Tilly Kearns on the 2023 All-MPSF First Team.
With three-time MPSF Women's Coach of the Year Marko Pintaric leading the way, USC women's water polo has landed six Trojans on the 2023 All-MPSF honor roll. Headlining the group of USC stars is Bayley Weber, who has earned USC's conference-leading 13th all-time selection of MPSF Player of the Year. Weber has also secured her first spot on the All-MPSF First Team, joined by Paige Hauschild and Tilly Kearns in that group for 2023, while three other Trojans have picked up All-MPSF honors. Grace Tehaney has landed on the All-MPSF Second Team, with Mireia Guiral earning All-MPSF Honorable Mention, and freshman Morgan Netherton is on the MPSF All-Newcomer Team.
MPSF Player of the Year Bayley Weber has been a scoring force for the Trojans in her fifth season of action. She's risen to rank No. 9 all-time in career scoring at USC with 207 career goals thanks to her explosion of 64 goals this season — the most by any player in the MPSF this year and 10th most in a single season by a Trojan. But Weber's skill set stretches well beyond offense, as the savvy utility player enters postseason play leading the Trojans in field blocks and having served up 17 assists. She has scored in 22 of USC's 26 games to date with a team-high 19 multiple-goal outings while picking up a trio of MPSF Player of the Week selections this season. Now cemented in USC history with the Trojans' 13th all-time MPSF Player of the Year selection, Weber follows in the footsteps of former notable winners Maud Megan's (2021), Amanda Longan (2018), Stephania Haralabidis (2016), Monica Vavic (2013), Tumua Anae (2010), Kami Craig (2010), Moriah Van Norman (2004), Sofia Konoukh (2001 & 2002), Aniko Pelle (2000) and Bernice Orwig (1997 & 1999). With her upgrade to All-MPSF First Team this year, Weber is now a four-time All-MPSF honoree after Second Team selections in 2020 and 2022 and honorable mention in 2021.
Now in her third season at USC, redshirt junior Tilly Kearns leads the Trojans in steals while having pumped in 55 goals to date. That brings her career count out to 148 as the now-two-time All-MPSF First Team honoree helps lead her Trojans into the postseason looking to add to USC's trophy case. Kearns also was an MPSF Player of the Week pick this season, and she's coming off a season-high five goals scored vs. UCLA last weekend. She has scored in 22 games this year with 17 multiple-goal outings so far.
Another key to USC's successes in 2023 has been Grace Tehaney, who is USC's second leading assists provider and has already matched her previous scoring tally with 40 goals to date this year. That's pulled her up to rank No. 15 all-time in scoring at USC with 163 goals as she enters the final stretch of her fifth season as a Trojan. The lefty has struck in 19 games so far this season, holding a streak of at least one goal scored in USC's last nine games. This year's All-MPSF Second Team selection is a repeat of honors earned in 2020 and goes along with honorable mention received last season. Tehaney also was an MPSF Player of the Week pick this season.
Barcelona product Mireia Guiral, meanwhile, also is back on the All-MPSF awards list with another round of All-MPSF Honorable Mention accolades. The two-meter power is in her fifth season as a Trojan, notching 19 goals this season so far to run her career total to 119. She's scored in 13 games this year and is second on the team in drawn exclusions.
A fresh face on the All-MPSF honor roll, Morgan Netherton has made her presence felt in her first season as a Trojan. The true freshman has scored 11 goals along the way to USC's 25-1 record and trip to the MPSF Tournament. She's the 27th Trojan to be named to the MPSF All-Newcomer Team.

USC head coach Marko Pintaric has guided the Women of Troy to the top seed in the MPSF Tournament for the third straight season, having gone 6-0 in MPSF play and carrying a 13-game win streak into this 2023 postseason. At 25-1 overall, USC has already avenged its only loss of the year with a resounding victory over Stanford earlier this month. Offensively, USC has churned out 16.8 goals per game. Defensively, the Trojans are allowing just 7.0 goals-against per game, having held opponents to single digits in 21 games. Now in his fourth season as head coach of the USC water polo program, this is Pintaric's third consecutive MPSF Coach of the Year award on the women's side.👑All hail to Bayley! 👑

With three All-MPSF First Team honorees, USC ties its program record for Trojans on that list. In four seasons of work at USC, redshirt senior Paige Hauschild now has her third career selection to the All-MPSF First Team. She was a Second Team pick as a true freshman in 2018, and she's continued to shine brighter each year as a Trojan. Fresh off a three-goal and six-assist performance against UCLA, Hauschild is a goal away from her 200th at USC. She's tallied 35 goals so far in her final season, leading the team in assists and a lock for the Trojans on opening sprints.💫The best in the biz!💫
