USC Lacrosse's Emma Wightman Claims Third Pac-12 Weekly Honor

The graduate transfer defender headlined the defensive unit, as she posted seven caused turnovers and six groundballs against Colorado (16-13) and Oregon (10-5) to gift the Trojans at least a share of the Pac-12 regular season title
SAN FRANCISCO – USC lacrosse graduate transfer defender Emma Wightman (Basking Ridge, N.J.) was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Apr. 10-16; the league announced on Tuesday, Apr. 18. Colorado's graduate attacker Charlie Rudy was chosen for the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week award.
Wightman put on a showcase on one of the most important weekends for the Trojans as she led them to a weekend sweep on the road against Colorado and Oregon. The defender had one of her best games against the Buffalo, as she posted five caused turnovers and four groundballs. She continued her reign over the Pac-12 with two more caused turnovers and two groundballs against the Ducks. Wightman has produced 14 caused turnovers and picked up 12 groundballs in the last four games. The graduate transfer is currently second for both the Trojans and the Pac-12 with 34 caused turnovers, as she is slightly behind teammate Olivia Dooley, who has 36 on the season.
The award is Wightman's third, as she has claimed three of the ten Defensive Player of the Week Awards. USC has picked up nine of the 20 awards this year, including seven of the ten defensive honors. The Women of Troy's mark of nine sits one behind the Pac-12 record, and their seven defensive honors continues to grow their newfound conference record. Wightman's third award ties her with teammate Catherine Lord, as both have claimed three this season. With three awards, Wightman and Lord are tied for the most weekly honors in a season with USC graduate Riley Hertford.
The Pac-12 is in its sixth season of women's lacrosse. Women of Troy have earned weekly conference honors 34 times (24 defensive and ten offensive) to rank first among league schools. Colorado sits second with 29 awards. Stanford currently has 25, and Arizona State follows that with 23. Oregon (5) and California (2) round out the group.
USC (13-3, 8-1 Pac-12) gets a week off before it heads to the desert to finish the regular season against Arizona State (4-10, 3-6 Pac-12). The Women of Troy can claim sole possession of the Pac-12 regular season title as they face the Sun Devils at 3 p.m. on Apr. 28 in Tempe, Ariz., at the Sun Devil Soccer Stadium.
