PROVO, Utah --Junior Tyler Stromsborg was dealing on Friday, tossing a five-hit complete-game shutout to lead the USC baseball team to a win over the Utah Utes, 4-0.

Stromsborg (3-1) went the distance for USC (15-9-1, 8-2), giving up five hits, walking two and striking out four. His complete-game shutout was the first by a USC pitcher since Connor Lunn did it in 2019.

In the batter's box, the Trojans were led by junior Carson Wells, who went 2-for-2 on the day with a triple and an RBI. Senior Johnny Olmstead compiled a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Freshman Ethan Hedges also helped out for USC, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Trojans took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Freshman Austin Overn came across to score the lone run of the inning for USC and get them on the board.

The Trojans then tacked on runs in the fifth and eighth innings, with their biggest output coming in the fifth when they scored two times. A run-scoring double from Olmstead was the highlight of the inning.
