USC Lacrosse's Catherine Lord Claims Third Pac-12 Weekly Honor

The sophomore midfielder headlined the defensive unit, as she posted two caused turnovers and two groundballs in the defensive showcases against Colorado (17-13) and Oregon (14-4)
SAN FRANCISCO – USC lacrosse sophomore defender Catherine Lord (Denver, Colo.) was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Mar. 20-26; the league announced on Tuesday, Mar. 28. Arizona State's graduate midfielder Kaylon Buckner was chosen for the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week award.
Lord headlined a defense unit that stifled Colorado and Oregon in a weekend sweep for the Trojans. Colorado entering the weekend, was undefeated in the Pac-12 after upsetting the preseason favorites, Stanford. Lord and the USC defense handled the Buffs, as it outscored the streaky Colorado squad 16-8 heading into the fourth and ended up finishing it out 17-13. The sophomore in that outing picked up two groundballs. In the weekend's second leg, Lord and the stout Trojan defense held firm as they won the affair 14-4. Lord and most of the starting defense left before the fourth, as they led 14-2 after shutting the Ducks out in the third quarter. Lord posted two caused turnovers and two draw controls during the afternoon matchup.
The award is Lord's third, as she has claimed three of the seven Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week Awards this year. USC has picked up seven of the 14 awards this year, including five of the seven defensive honors. Lord's third award puts her in elite company as she matches Riley Hertford's record for weekly awards in a single season.
The Pac-12 is in its sixth season of women's lacrosse. Women of Troy have earned weekly conference honors 32 times (22 defensive and ten offensive) to rank first among league schools. Colorado sits second with 28 awards. Arizona State currently has 23, and Stanford follows that with 22. Oregon (5) and California (2) round out the group.
USC (8-2, 3-0 Pac-12) hopes to continue its reign over the conference as it faces California (3-6, 1-2 Pac-12) and Stanford (4-5, 2-1 Pac-12) on the road this weekend. The Women of Troy begin with the Bears at 3 p.m. Friday (Mar. 31) at California Memorial Stadium in Berkeley, Calif., and then head to the Cardinal's domain as they face off at 1 p.m. Sunday (Apr. 2) at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium in Stanford, Calif.
