USC Lacrosse's Alexis Niblock Picks Up Her First Pac-12 Weekly Award

The defender posted six groundballs and three caused turnovers, as she was selected as the Trojans' fourth consecutive defensive player of the week honoree
SAN FRANCISCO – USC lacrosse sophomore defender Alexis Niblock (Bayport, N.Y.) was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Mar. 6-12, the league announced on Tuesday, Mar. 14. Stanford's sophomore midfielder Annabel Frist was chosen for the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week award.
Niblock had a dominant weekend on the defensive side against two solid opponents, as she posted six groundballs and three caused turnovers. Most of her stats came against No. 16 Princeton, where she logged a new career-high with three caused turnovers and tied her career-high in groundballs with four. The sophomore only added to her totals with two more groundballs against Hofstra to finish out the week. Niblock currently leads the team with 16 groundballs, which is an impressive feat considering USC entered the weekend third in the country for groundballs per game with 21.4.
The award is Niblock's first, as she continues the tradition of USC players being honored by the conference. The Women of Troy have claimed six of the ten honors this season and have won the defensive award four consecutive times.
The Pac-12 is in its sixth season of women's lacrosse. Women of Troy have earned weekly conference honors 31 times (21 defensive and ten offensive) to rank first among league schools. Colorado sits second with 26 awards. Arizona State and Stanford both follow with 22. Oregon (5) and California (2) round out the group.
USC (5-2) begins its crawl through the conference schedule as it faces Arizona State (1-4) in Los Angeles. The Pac-12 opener starts at 3 p.m. Friday (Mar. 17) at McAlister Field.
