USC Baseball Falls to UC Riverside, 6-5

USC falls to 3-4-1 with the loss, while the Highlanders move to 3-5 on the year.
The teams entered the fifth inning all knotted at 3-3, but UCR came up with three runs on a wild pitch and two sacrifice flies. The Trojans trailed by three entering the eighth when Connor Clift hit his first homer in a USC uniform to cut it to a two-run deficit.
Johnny Olmstead led off the ninth with a single and then advanced to third on a double by Cole Gabrielson. Gabrielson's double off the wall was just feet from going out and tying the game. Nick Lopez brought Olmstead home on a groundout, but a grounder to short ended the game with Gabrielson on third.
USC used eight different pitchers in the game, with six posting scoreless relief outings.

COMING UP
The Trojans co-host the Southern California College Baseball Classic with UCLA this weekend, with Sacramento State coming to Dedeaux Field on Friday and Tulane coming on Saturday. Sunday will be at UCLA, with Sac State and Tulane playing in the morning and then USC and UCLA playing at 2:30 p.m.
