USC Lacrosse's Ella Heaney, Catherine Lord Claim Pac-12 Weekly Awards
February 21, 2023 | Women's Lacrosse
The Trojans sweep the Pac-12 lacrosse weekly awards for the seventh time, as both players earn this honor for the first time in their careers.
SAN FRANCISCO – USC lacrosse senior attacker Ella Heaney (Garden City, N.Y.) was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, and sophomore midfielder Catherine Lord (Denver, Colo.) was chosen for the Defensive Player of the Week award for the week of Feb. 13-19, the league announced on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
Heaney produced seven points in the 18-10 win over previously undefeated Ohio State (3-1). She tied her career-high in points, posting four goals and three assists in the outing. Her four goals gave her the first hat trick of the year for the Trojans and increased her number to 12 hat tricks for her career. Heaney converted all of her attempts at the goal, as she was 4-4 on shots taken during the game. The senior also helped keep possession of the ball in the offensive end, as she picked up three groundballs.
Lord boasted prime numbers in the contest as she picked up three groundballs, won six draw controls, and caused one turnover. Her three groundballs matched her career high. Lord was a focal point from the circle, as she kept the ball out of the Buckeyes' hands and allowed the offense to post 18 goals. The sophomore also contributed on the offensive half, claiming her first goal of the season.
The Pac-12 is in its sixth season of women's lacrosse. Since 2018, Women of Troy have earned weekly conference honors 27 times (18 defensive and nine offensive) and have swept the weekly awards seven times.
