Amy Pauly Promoted to USC Women’s Volleyball Associate Head Coach
February 15, 2023 | Women's Volleyball
Pauly has served as the Trojans’ recruiting coordinator and assistant coach since 2020
LOS ANGELES – The USC women's volleyball program has promoted Amy Pauly to the position of associate head coach, head coach Brad Keller announced on Wednesday, Feb. 15.
"Amy has been the backbone of this program since she arrived during the middle of the COVID season," said Keller. "Her recruiting, her ability to relate to student-athletes, and her authentic coaching style has been incredibly valuable to the foundation of the team we are building at USC. Her fingerprints are all over this program and we are fortunate to be able to elevate her to associate head coach."
Pauly helped bring in the nation's top-rated recruiting class in 2022 and is integral in the Trojans' recruitment of both high school student-athletes and collegiate transfers.
Pauly arrived at USC following two seasons (2018-19) as the head coach at UAB (Alabama-Birmingham) where her squads produced a 25-30 overall record and she was named to VolleyballMag.com's 2020 Under 40 Coaching Hotshots list.
Prior to UAB, Pauly spent six seasons (2012-17) as the associate head coach at Villanova where she helped the Wildcats to 97 victories, an NCAA tournament appearance in 2015, and was named to the 2016 AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) 30 Under 30 list.
In 2017, Pauly helped Villanova secure its first-ever top-55 recruiting class and produced a pair of All-Big East selections. She coached every position at 'Nova with an emphasis on the libero and pin-attacker spots. That season, the Wildcats had four players over 200 kills and six others over 100. Villanova also had two players with over 300 digs and six with more than 100.
Pauly got her start in collegiate coaching in 2010 as a graduate assistant at South Carolina where she was responsible for coordinating practice schedules, travel arrangements, and served as the director for the Gamecocks' summer camps.
As a student-athlete, Pauly lettered four years at Alabama (2005-08) as a libero and helped the Crimson Tide earn three consecutive berths into the NCAA tournament. She set Alabama career (1,724), season (616), and single-match (39) records for digs. Her single-season average of 5.31 digs per set in 2007 is the highest in program history and her career total was ranked fourth all-time in the SEC (Southeastern Conference) record books when she concluded her playing career. She was a six-time SEC Player of the Week selection and was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll three times.
Pauly's experience coaching club teams includes a stint as the head coach for South Carolina Midlands where she guided the team to a third-place finish at the Palmetto Regional championship. She has also served as head coach of East Coast Power Volleyball Club in Philadelphia and was an assistant coach at 1st Alliance Volleyball Club in Chicago.
Pauly graduated from Alabama in 2009 with a degree in communication studies and earned a master in sports and entertainment management from South Carolina in 2011. She is married to Ahen Kim, the women's volleyball head coach at Brown.
Under fourth-year head coach Brad Keller, USC (22-11) finished fourth in the Pac-12 standings (13-7) in 2022 and was awarded one of 32 at-large berths into the NCAA tournament. The Women of Troy defeated High Point in the first round of the tourney but were eliminated by 10th-ranked site host Ohio State. It was the first NCAA tournament victory for Keller, and the program's first appearance in the tourney since 2019. Outside hitter Skylar Fields was named to the AVCA All-America first team.
