USC Lacrosse's Olivia Dooley Named to Tewaaraton Award Watch List

Reigning Pac-12 DPOY makes her debut on the 2023 Watch List
WASHINGTON, D.C. – USC senior defender Olivia Dooley (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset HS) was named among 50 Women to the official Tewaaraton Foundation's 2023 Tewaaraton Award Watch Lists on Friday, Feb. 10. The foundation hosts two separate sections one for men's and one for women's players, including the top student-athletes across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse, and highlight early contenders for the 2023 Tewaaraton Award.
The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation.
"These student-athletes represent the very best at the collegiate level and have honored the Creator's game with their past play," said Andy Phillips, president of the Tewaaraton Foundation. "We look forward to watching them achieve new heights this season for both themselves and their teammates."
Dooley makes her debut on the Watch List after a stellar 2022 campaign. The headlining defender earned Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year and ILWomen All-American Honorable Mention honors during her junior year. Dooley was limited to only 13 games last season but still posted 27 caused turnovers and 24 groundballs. Alongside her 2.07 caused turnovers per game, she led both the Women of Troy and the Pac-12 in caused turnovers. These marks gave her a reputation in the lacrosse community as she also added to her trophy case in 2022 with Pac-12 All-Conference and IWLCA All-Region honors.
Players not named to this initial list will have opportunities to play their way into a spot as the season progresses. Watch List additions will be announced on March 7 and March 28 before the field will be narrowed to 25 men's and 25 women's nominees on April 18. Nominees can be players from the Watch Lists or not from the Watch Lists, effectively allowing for a third round of additions. Five men's and five women's finalists will be announced early May. The Tewaaraton Award recipients will be chosen after the conclusion of the collegiate lacrosse season.
Several Trojans have advanced to be named to the list of Tewaaraton Award nominees. Kelsey Huff was recently put on the watch list for three different years (2019, 2021-22). Three-time All-American Michaela Michael received nominee status in 2017. Michael and All-American midfielder Amanda Johansen were the first Trojans to be named to the Tewaaraton Award's Watch List at the beginning of 2016. Michael and All-American defender Courtney Tarleton were named nominees at the end of that 2016 season. Michael, defender Lydia Sutton, and goalie Gussie Johns were each on the 2017 watch list. Johns and Sutton were on the initial 2018 watch list and were later joined by Kerrigan Miller, who was on the official watch list for three consecutive years (2018-20).
The Women of Troy open up the 2023 season Saturday (Feb. 11) with a 9 a.m. PT road matchup against No. 3 Boston College.
