She brings extra power to the paint, adding to a highly touted group of incoming Women of Troy.
Already considered the No. 1 women's basketball recruiting class in the nation, USC head coach Lindsay Gottlieb's group of 2024 freshmen is officially one talent stronger with the addition of Vivian Iwuchukwu, as announced today (Dec. 21). She joins teammates-to-be Rian Forestier (San Antonio, Texas), Kayleigh Heckel (Port Chester, N.Y.), Avery Howell (Boise, Idaho), Kennedy Smith (Etiwanda, Calif.) and Laura Williams (Fairfax, Va.) as USC's six signees for the season to come.
"We are thrilled to announce that Viv has signed with our USC squad. We identified Viv as one of the most athletic, high-motor, high upside post players the moment we saw her play," Gottlieb said of Iwuchukwu. "That her brother Vince was already a valued member of the USC family was simply a bonus. Viv is a unique talent. She is a leader and a dominant inside force that will be a seamless fit with not only her classmates in the '24 class, but also with the style of play we are establishing with our returning veterans."
A Nigerian native who ranked as the No. 47 recruit in the nation by ESPNW, Iwuchukwu is a 6-foot-3 forward out of Florida's Montverde Academy. Her older brother, Vince, is a sophomore forward on the USC men's team. Vivian helped Montverde to a 26-1 record last season, averaging 7.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. She and Montverde claimed back-to-back GEICO High School Nationals titles in her sophomore and junior seasons, beating future USC teammate Heckel's Long Island Lutheran in last year's title game. She is currently averaging 12.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game for an 8-1 Montverde squad in her senior season. Also a 2022 Adidas Circuit runner-up, Iwuchukwu was named to the 2023 Nike EYBL All-Tournament Team, playing club for Essence AAU.
"What a great day for USC women's basketball," Gottlieb added. "Our staff has worked tirelessly to bring a special group here that is united in their desire to win, to elevate our program and to have an unforgettable experience wearing the Cardinal and Gold. I am proud of what we are building and excited about the continued work in front of us. Fight On!"
