USC Women's Volleyball OH Skylar Fields Named AVCA/GameChanger National Player of the Week

The Trojans’ senior outside hitter earned her third national weekly award and the 13th all-time for the program
LEXINGTON, Ky. – USC women's volleyball senior OH Skylar Fields (Missouri City, Texas/Ridge Point HS) was named the AVCA/GameChanger National Player of the Week the AVCA announced on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

It is the third time Fields has been chosen for the AVCA's national weekly award (Oct. 11, 2022, at USC and Oct. 5, 2021, at Texas). She was also picked as the Pac-12's Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season (Sept. 11, Oct. 23, Nov. 6) and for the seventh time in her career.

Fields collects the 13th all-time national weekly honor won by a Trojan player and becomes the fourth USC hitter to receive the national award twice in her career. She joins All-Americans Khalia Lanier (2017, '19), Samantha Bricio (2012, '15), and Alex Jupiter (twice in 2010).

Fields averaged 8.00 kills per set while hitting .442 and posted an astonishing 8.25 points per set in USC's wins over Arizona and 15th-ranked Arizona State. In the second set against the Sun Devils, she eclipsed the 2,000-career kill mark and finished the day at 20th on USC's career kills list in under two seasons (1,091 kills as a Trojan).

Fields had 24 kills in back-to-back matches to lead USC to its first pair of 3-0 wins over Pac-12 opponents on the same weekend since 2018 and produced her 52nd and 53rd double-digit kills match as a Trojan. She scored over 20 kills for the 31st and 32nd time. Fields had 12 kills in a set against Arizona and scored 10 kills in a set against Arizona State. This season, she leads the Pac-12 in kills (493, 3rd nationally), kills per set (5.14 kps, 2nd nationally), points (535.0, 4th nationally), and points per set (5.57 pps, 3rd nationally).Â

The 25th-ranked Trojans (16-8, 10-4 Pac-12) are tied for third in the league standings and head to the Pacific Northwest for matches at Washington (14-11, 5-9) on Friday (Nov. 10) and ninth-ranked Washington State (19-6, 9-5) on Sunday (Nov. 12). The Trojans and the Huskies will be shown on Pac-12 Insider while the USC-WSU match will be streamed on the WSU live stream platform.
