No. 7 Women of Troy Post NCAA Leading Time During First Evening of Competition At Texas Invite

Trojans clock school record en route to a meet-opening win.
LOS ANGELES – The No. 7 USC women's swim team recorded some of the fastest times in the country this season and set a school record to highlight the first evening of competition at the Texas Hall of Fame Swimming Invitational in Austin, Texas.Â

The Women of Troy opened the meet with a statement win, claiming the 200y medley relay in a school record time of 1:34.07 as Caroline Famous, Kaitlyn Dobler, Anicka Delgado and Vasilissa Buinaia combined to take the event. Dobler and Delgado maintain their spot in the record books, having swam on the relay that previously held the record – Calypso Sheridan, Kaitlyn Dobler, Anicka Delgado and Laticia Transom (1:34.66) set at the 2022 NCAA Championships. Â

On the men's side, USC touched third in the 200y medley relay, with Vaggelis Makyrgiannis, Chris O'Grady, Krzysztof Chmielewski and Artem Selin posting a 1:25.93.Â

USC closed out the evening with another major swim in the 800y freestyle relay, as Claire Tuggle, Buinaia, Justina Kozan and Minna Abraham posted an NCAA leading time of 6:53.54 to earn an automatic cut and claim the victory. The quartet lowered their mark for the fastest time in the nation this season, previously combining to clock a 7:02.06 at the SMU Classic Invitational.Â

Troy finished fourth in the 800y free relay as Makyrgiannis, Krzysztof Chmielewski, Ben Dillard and Ian Pickles posted a 6:22.47.Â

During the morning session of long course time trials, freshman Michal Chmielewski blasted the third fastest 200m butterfly in the world this year, touching in an Olympic A-cut time of 1:55.09.Â
