USC Men’s Volleyball downs UC Irvine and Concordia in Fall Tournament Play

The Trojans hosted the second weekend of fall competition and finished 2-3 on the day.
LOS ANGELES — The USC men's volleyball team beat UC Irvine and Concordia and went 2-3 overall in the 2023 USC Fall Tournament at Galen Center Pavilion on Saturday, Nov. 10.
USC men's volleyball hosted 21 matches and seven teams: CSUN, CUI, Long Beach State, Stanford, UC Irvine, UCLA, and UC Santa Barbara.
Playing to the best of three sets, the slate of matches began at 8:30 a.m. with USC vs. UC Irvine on court three. After splitting the first two sets, the Trojans overtook the Anteaters in a close third set — finishing 25-21, 28-30, 15-13.
In the second match, the Trojans battled the UCLA Bruins in a tight Crosstown contest, but ultimately came up short in the third set. UCLA beat USC 2-1 (28-30, 25-22, 15-8).
After a break, USC came out strong in the first set against the UCSB Gauchos, winning by six points. UCSB came back in the second set to force a third, and the Gauchos reverse swept the Trojans 19-25, 25-22, 15-12.
USC then took on Concordia University Irvine (CUI) and ended both sets strong. The Trojans swept the Golden Eagles 25-15, 25-10.
In the last match of the day, the Trojans were unable to come up with the win in two highly contested sets against CSUN Matadors. CSUN overpowered USC in a sweep 25-21, 25-20.
USC will continue and conclude fall play in the UCLA Fall Tournament at Westwood, Calif. on Saturday, Nov. 18 and Sunday, Nov. 19.

The 12th-ranked USC men's volleyball team concluded the 2023 season with a 10-16 overall record and went 3-9 in MPSF matches to finish in sixth place. USC faced Stanford in the opening round of the MPSF tournament but was eliminated by the Cardinal in four sets. In its history, the USC men's volleyball program has captured four NCAA championships while appearing in 15 NCAA tournaments and has produced 21 Olympians, 34 first-team All-Americans, and seven College Players of the Year.
