USC's Hannah Dickinson, Angeles Escobar Earn Pac-12 Weekly Honors
October 09, 2023 | Women's Soccer
LOS ANGELES – After leading the No. 15 USC women's soccer team to a 2-0 week against the Oregon schools, Hannah Dickinson and Angeles Escobar picked up Pac-12 Player of the Week honors on Monday.
Dickinson was named the conference's Goalkeeper of the Week and Escobar earned the Defender of the Week nod following USC's pair of shutouts. The Trojans took down Oregon 3-0 on Thursday and then beat Oregon State 4-0 on Sunday.
Dickinson made all five saves necessary to lead the Trojans to the two clean sheets, lowering her goals against average to 0.64, the fourth best average in the Pac-12. With Dickinson in the goal, the Trojans have won six straight and shutout five of their last six opponents, outscoring teams 17-1 over that stretch. It is her first career Goalkeeper of the Week award.
Escobar made two starts on the back line, helping USC hold the Ducks and Beavers to a combined 13 shots and no goals. She also posted an assist after banging a free kick off the crossbar against Oregon State. The senior defender, who was honored at USC's senior day celebration on Sunday, switched to playing on the back line this year after playing as a forward the previous three seasons. It was her first career Defender of the Week award.
Escobar and Dickinson join Maribel Flores as the three Trojans to win a Pac-12 weekly award this season. Flores was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week back on Sept. 18.
USC takes its six-game winning streak into a Saturday matchup against No. 25 Colorado this week. That match will be at McAlister field and can be seen live on Pac-12+ via USCTrojans.com.
