USC guard Boogie Ellis was named to the 2024 Jerry West Award Watch List which recognizes the top collegiate shooting guards, it was announced by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame today (Oct. 24). Ellis was one of 20 players named to the list of the top Division I shooting guards. The annual award is named in honor of 1980 Hall of Famer and 1959 NCAA Final Four MVP Jerry West.
"Each of the student-athletes nominated for the 2024 Jerry West Award has the same skill set that made Jerry West a household name, and they should be very proud of this accomplishment," said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. "Our committee, alongside Jerry, is honored to watch this exceptional group and work together to narrow down the list as the season progresses."
The fifth-year guard Ellis led USC with a 17.7 points per game average last season and was named to the 2022-23 Pac-12 All-Conference first team. He finished fourth in the league in scoring and tied for first in three-pointers made with 83. Ellis scored a total of 583 points which rank 10th on USC's all-time single-season list. Ellis also made 80.5 percent of his free throws, while making a team-leading 120 shots from the charity stripe. He was also second among Trojans with 46 steals and 102 assists. The San Diego native tied the Galen Center single-game scoring record by a Trojan when he scored 35 points vs. Arizona on March 2, 2023. Ellis will serve as a USC team captain for the second consecutive season.
The Jerry West Award Watch List will be narrowed down to 10 in late January, with the plans to announce the final five in late March. Â Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting, presented by Dell Technologies, in each of the three rounds, starting Friday, October 27.Â
