USC’s Stefan Dostanic Advances Again In NCAA Men’s Tennis Singles Action

CHAMPAIGN, ILL. — USC junior Stefan Dostanic served up a straight-set victory in today's NCAA Singles Round of 32 to take another strong step forward in his first venture into NCAA individual action. He and fellow Trojan Bradley Frye were not as fortunate in their first trip into NCAA Doubles draw, as the No. 5-8 seeded Trojan pair took a tough loss in today's opening round in Champaign, Ill.

Dostanic — seeded No. 7 in the singles draw — opened the day with a solid showing in singles. He dispatched Georgia's #50 Philip Henning 7-5, 6-3 in the Round of 32 to punch his ticket to tomorrow's Round of 16. There, Dostanic will take on Stanford's #15 Arthur Fery at 10:30 a.m. CT. The two Pac-12 powers have faced off four times already this season, with three matches going unfinished and Dostanic claiming one in straight sets.

Dostanic's singles win today marked his 39th victory of this season. That's the most wins in a single season by a Trojan since Steve Johnson won 48 in 2010-11.

Also today, Dostanic paired up with partner Bradley Frye for their first NCAA Doubles match. The Trojans got out to a good start in claiming the first set in their Round of 32 match against Wake Forest's #34 Banthia/Schnaitter, but match point would escape the USC duo in the second set. Instead, Banthia/Schnaitter made a late move and grabbed the second set in a tiebreaker, forcing a 10-point tiebreaker to decide things. Dostanic/Frye found themselves unable to make up ground, falling 3-6, 7-6 (7), 1-0 (10-5) to close their 2021-22 season together as ITA All-Americans with a 24-10 overall record.
