No. 6 USC Sweeps George Mason 3-0 to Remain Undefeated at Home

LOS ANGELES--Sam Kobrine had 11 kills while hitting .391 to help the No. 6 ranked USC men's volleyball team sweep George Mason 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-16) at Galen Center on Wednesday (Mar. 9).
USC improves to 14-3 overall and the Trojans remain undefeated at home (10-0). The Patriots drop to 7-8 overall.
In addition to his 11 kills, Kobrine collected 4 digs, 3 aces, 2 blocks, and 1 assist. Senior Brandon Browning tallied on 8 kills of his own (.400) and added on 6 digs and 1 block. Simon Gallas added 7 kills (.211), 2 digs and 1 block.
For George Mason, Jack Bolz collected 5 kills hitting .067, while Chey Cooper added 4 kills hitting .375.
As a team, USC hit .389 compared to George Mason's .085.
The Trojans sprinted to a 14-5 lead in the first set and extended it to 18-9. Kyle Paulson was efficient out of the middle going 4-for-5 with no errors. The Patriots didn't give up, but the Trojans claimed the set at 25-16.
George Mason came out fired up to start the second set and took an early 7-4 lead. That lit up the Trojan offense and USC scored four points in a row to take back the lead at 8-7. Points were exchanged by both teams until the Trojans pulled away at 22-17. The set was capped off with a perfect out-of-system backset from libero Cole Paxson to Kobrine on the outside for a kill. Kobrine then went back to the service line to score an ace to make the score 24-18. USC closed out the second set winning 25-20.
In the third set, USC went on a three-point run to take a 8-5 lead. Browning scored two kills in a row to extend the Trojans' lead to 15-9. USC continued to push points and won the set 25-16 to win the match.
Next up, the Trojans return to the Galen Center on Friday night (Mar. 11) to take on Vanguard at 7 p.m. PT.
