USC Women's Volleyball's Skylar Fields Named AVCA First-Team All-American

USC sophomore setter Mia Tuaniga received All-America honorable mention
OMAHA, Neb. – USC women's volleyball senior outside hitter Skylar Fields (Missouri City, Texas/Ridge Point HS) was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America first team on Wednesday, Dec. 14. Sophomore setter Mia Tuaniga (Long Beach, Calif./Mater Dei HS) received All-America honorable mention status.
Fields' selection makes her the 43rd All-American in program history. She collects USC's 78th all-time All-America certificate and is the first Trojan to earn All-America laurels since Khalia Lanier was chosen to the second team in 2019. USC's total first-team certificates increases to 48 all-time with 27 of those awarded by the AVCA. Fields will be honored at the Division I All-Americans and National Players of the Year Banquet on Friday, Dec. 16, in Omaha.
Fields becomes a two-time AVCA All-American. She was a third-team choice in 2021 as a junior and earned honorable mention as a sophomore (2020-21) at Texas. Both Fields and Tuaniga were named to the AVCA's Pacific South Region Team last week. It was the fourth-career all-region nod for Fields who was named to the Southwest Region Team three times at Texas.
Fields is among five Pac-12 student-athletes chosen for the first-team All-America award. The Conference had eight All-Americans in total (two second team, one third team) and four, including Tuaniga, tabbed for honorable mention.
Fields won four Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week awards this season and led the Pac-12 in kills (598), kills per set (5.11 kps), points (650.0) and points per set (5.56 pps). Her total kills and points each reached third in USC single-season history. Tuaniga is the league leader in assists (1,308) and service aces (58). She set the Trojans' school record with 10 aces in a match this season and produced the second triple-double in program history during the rally-scoring era.
USC (22-11) finished fourth in the Pac-12 standings (13-7) and was awarded one of 32 at-large berths into the 2022 NCAA tournament last week. The Women of Troy defeated High Point in the first round of the tourney but were eliminated by 10th-ranked site host Ohio State. It was the first NCAA tournament victory for third-year head coach Brad Keller and the program's first appearance in the tourney since 2019.
