USC Swimming Alumni Win 15 Gold's at FINA Swimming World Cup

Dylan Carter completes sprint trifecta en route to overall world cup crown.
Trojan swimming alum Dylan Carter (Class of 2018) completed his sprint trifecta – with his third Triple Crown – and ninth gold medal in nine races at this year's FINA World Cup series – in the 50 butterfly on Saturday, Nov. 5 in Indianapolis.
The international FINA event included three legs in total, with stops in Berlin (Oct. 21-23), Toronto (Oct.28-30) and Indianapolis (Nov. 3-5), over the course of three weeks.
Carter, who claimed the 50m fly, 50m back and 50m free at all three legs of the FINA World Cup (Berlin, Toronto and Indianapolis), set a new U.S. Open record in the 50m fly in Indianapolis, clocking a 21.99. With nine total wins over the course of the three-leg event, Carter earned the overall men's crown and took home over $130,000 in prize money.
"I am so happy — I am over the moon," Carter said. "The pressure really started to mount this weekend, but I really felt like I could do it. I think it is massive for Trinidad and Tobago. The Olympics and World Championships is about who is best on that day, but the World Cup is about who is better for an extended period of time. It is really a phenomenal feat of not just fast swimming, but endurance. It is a big step for our sport in the Caribbean."
In total, Trojans won 15 gold medals at the FINA event, with USC greats Louise Hansson (Class of 2020) and Kasia Wasick (Class of 2016) each winning three golds apiece. Hansson captured her first gold in Berlin (100m fly) and followed it up with two golds at the third leg in Indianapolis (50m fly, 100m fly).
Sprint specialist Kasia Wasick asserted her dominance as one of the top splash and dash freestyle competitors in the world, sweeping the 50m free in Berlin, Toronto and Indianapolis. In Indy, Wasick blasted a personal best 23.10 to put her third on the events all-time fastest list and set a Polish record.
