The Trojans claimed the season series against crosstown rival UCLA with a four-set win on Black Friday night

LOS ANGELES – The USC women's volleyball team (21-10, 13-7 Pac-12) defeated crosstown rival UCLA (16-13, 10-10) in four sets (25-22, 22-25, 25-20, 25-21) on Senior Night at Galen Center on Friday, Nov. 25. The Women of Troy conclude the regular season in fourth place in the Pac-12 standings.

KEY PLAYERS

Fr. setter Adonia Faumuina made her collegiate debut and set the Trojans to a .223 hitting rate with 39 assists. She also put up her first-career double-double with 12 digs to go with three blocks and two kills.
Gr. LIB Kelli Barry set a new career high against her former team with 30 digs and added seven assists and a service ace. It was her fourth match in double-digit digs this season and the first 30-dig match by a Trojan since Victoria Garrick had 33 in five sets against Arizona on Nov. 16, 2018.
Sr. DS Keila Barra also posted a new career high with 12 digs and reached double digits for the first time this season.
Sr. OPP Emilia Weske put up nine kills to go with six digs and three blocks.
Sr. OH Skylar Fields led the Trojans with 23 kills (4e, 71att, .268) to go with 10 digs and five blocks (one solo). It was her 28th match in double-digit kills this season and her 17th time with 20 or more kills. Fields also recorded her 10th double-double.
Fr. OH Jordan Wilson added 14 kills (6e, 34att, .235) with five digs, two blocks (one solo), and a service ace.
Jr. MB Lindsey Miller led all players with seven blocks and added five kills (2e, 13att, .231) with three assists.
For UCLA, élan McCall had a double-double with 17 kills and 16 digs. Charitie Luper also had a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs and added a pair of service aces. Mokihana Tufono put up 26 assists with 10 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Trojans reached double-digit blocks for the 10th time this season and topped the Bruins, 13-6, at the net. USC out-hit UCLA, .223 to .142, and held the Bruins under .100 in the three sets it won.
Fields led the way in the first set and collected eight of her kills in the opening frame. USC put up two blocks and Barry had 10 of her digs to help hold UCLA to a .085 hitting percentage (11k, 7e, 47att). The lead changed hands five times and the score was tied 12 times before USC grabbed set point at 24-21. The Bruins saved one, but USC won, 25-22.
Barry racked up eight more digs in the second and Fields had six kills. Wilson added five kills, but the Bruins finished with 18 kills and hit .289 to take a 25-22 win to even the match. Despite UCLA's largest lead at 14-6, USC closed within two points several times at 20-18, 23-21, and 24-22.
USC scored 17 kills in the third and hit .273 (5e, 44att) to take a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-20 win. Weske had five of her kills in the set while Fields added four; Wilson and Miller added three each.
Set four was tied 13 times and the lead changed hands eight times before the Trojans sealed the victory on a 25-21 win. Fields had five kills and Barry had five digs, but it was the USC block that shut down the Bruins. The Trojans tallied seven blocks in the fourth led by five from Miller and held UCLA to a .098 hitting rate (14k, 10e, 41att).

UP NEXT

The Trojans are seeking their 38th NCAA tournament appearance—the program's first since 2019—and will await the decision of the NCAA selection committee. Selections will be announced on a live stream on NCAA.com on Sunday (Nov. 27) at 4:30 p.m. PT.

MATCH NOTES

USC improved to 63-57 all-time against UCLA and to 24-24 as the home team. The Trojans won their third straight over the Bruins and have won four of the last five meetings.
The Trojans go to 193-54 (.781) all-time at Galen Center and finish the season with a 14-2 mark at home.
USC will finish fourth in the Pac-12 standings, the highest under third-year head coach Brad Keller.
