October 17, 2022 | Women's Volleyball
USC outside hitter Skylar Fields received her third straight weekly award and libero Gala Trubint earned her second
SAN FRANCISCO – USC women's volleyball senior outside hitter Skylar Fields (Missouri City, Texas/Ridge Point HS) was chosen as the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week for the third straight time and freshman libero Gala Trubint (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch HS) was named the Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week for matches played the week of Oct. 10-16, the Conference announced on Monday, Oct. 17.
Â
It is the sixth time that USC has won both awards and marks the 84th and 85th all-time weekly awards won by Trojans. Since 2011, when the Pac-12 began honoring separate offensive and defensive players of the week and introduced a freshman award, Trojans have earned 26 offensive awards, 13 defensive awards, and 20 freshman honors.
Â
Fields—who becomes the 13th Trojan to earn three Pac-12 weekly awards in her career—averaged 6.25 kills per set while hitting .414 over two matches and equaled her career high with 27 kills (.400 hitting) in a four-set win over 17th-ranked Oregon. She recorded her eighth straight 20-kill match and posted her 10th 20-kill performance of the season. Fields led the Trojans in scoring (50.5 points) and is the Pac-12's only player over 300 kills (358). She leads the league in kills (5.04 kps) and points (5.44 pps) and is the only outside hitter in the Conference to rank in the top 10 for hitting percentage (.326).
Â
Trubint logged back-to-back 20-dig matches to average 5.00 digs per set. She recorded her fifth 20-dig match of the season and racked up her 19th straight match in double-digit digs. Trubint moved into the lead in the Pac-12 in total digs (298) and ranks second in digs per set (4.20 dps). She is the only freshman in the Conference to rank in the top 30 for digs.
Â
The Women of Troy (15-4, 7-1 Pac-12) are on a six-match winning streak (the longest since Sept. 2016) and will wrap up the front half of the Pac-12 schedule with a road trip to the Bay Area this week. USC meets California (7-11, 0-8 Pac-12) on Friday (Oct. 21) at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, Calif., and then takes on No. 7 Stanford (12-4, 7-1) on Sunday (Oct. 23) at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif. The USC-Cal match will be shown live on Pac-12 Bay Area and the USC-Stanford match will be streamed live on the Pac-12 Insider platform.
