USC’s Robert Glinta to serve as Romania’s Flag Bearer In Tokyo.
USC Swimming will be well represented at the Tokyo Olympic Games, as seven women and nine men are set for Olympic action starting this week.Â
Â
Trojan Robert Glinta, set to compete in his second Olympics, will be Romania's flag bearer in this year's opening ceremonies, making him the 15th Trojan to hold that honor and the ninth from outside the U.S.Â
Â
USC's 16-swimmer Olympic contingent features Haley Anderson (USA), Dylan Carter (Trinidad and Tobago), Santo Condrelli (Italy), Louise Hansson (Sweden), Victor Johansson (Sweden), Katinka Hosszu (Hungary), Ous Mellouli (Tunisia), Vladimir Morozov (Russian Olympic Committee), Kasia Wilk (Poland), Evangelos Makrygiannis (Greece), Anicka Delgado (Ecuador), Anika Apostalon (Czech Republic), Alexei Sancov (Republic of Moldova), Nikola Miljenic (Croatia), Marlen Kahler (Austria), and Glinta (Romania).Â
With 16 Trojans set to swim in Tokyo, USC will see the most Olympic swimmers and divers in action since Athens in 2004 (20).Â
Â
Also traveling to Tokyo will be Assistant USC Swim Coach, Chase Bloch, who will serve as the Head Coach for Trinidad and Tobago.Â
In addition to the 16 Trojan swimmers in Tokyo, two additional athletes with ties to USC will compete as Yakov Toumarkin (Israel) and incoming USC student Noelani Day (Tonga) are also set to swim. Toumarkin will serve as Israel's flag bearer in this year's opening ceremonies.Â
Â
Trojan swimmers look to extend an impressive streak as the Women of Troy have won at least one gold medal in each Olympics since 1996.Â
Â
The Tokyo Aquatics Centre will be home to the pool swimming competitions from July 24-Aug.1, while the 10k Marathon Swim competition will be held Aug. 4-5 at the Odaiba Marine Park.Â
