USC Baseball Falls to No. 15 Oregon, 7-5, in Series Finale
April 18, 2021 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball team dropped the series finale to No. 15 Oregon, 7-5, on Sunday in a back-and-forth contest at Dedeaux Field.
The Trojans saw their lead slip away in the eighth inning and were only able to come up with one run over the final two innings to fall to 17-13 overall and 6-6 in Pac-12 play. Oregon improves to 22-8, 8-4.
USC grabbed an early lead with two runs in the first inning, but the Ducks would even things up with runs in the second and third. John Thomas and Clay Owens put the Trojans back on top, however, driving in runs in the bottom of the third to make it a 4-2 game.
After Oregon added a run in the fourth on an RBI double from Sam Novitske, USC took a 4-3 lead into the eighth. The Ducks would score four runs on five hits to grab the lead for good in the eighth. The Trojans plated a run in the bottom half of the inning, getting an RBI triple from Brady Shockey, but that was it for the rally.
Alex Cornwell was sharp on the mound for USC, but took a no-decision after exiting following the seventh. The Trojan lefty struck out five batters and walked none while giving up three runs on the day.
