USC Baseball Holds Off Fresno State for 2-1 Win
April 13, 2021 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball team used 11 different pitchers to strand 14 Fresno State runners on Tuesday night in a 2-1 win at Dedeaux Field.
The Trojans welcomed back family and friends for the first time in over a year at Dedeaux Field, treating the sparse crowd to a non-conference win. USC moves to 16-11 with the victory and the Bulldogs fall to 9-16.
The Trojans got a leadoff triple from Tyresse Turner and then Jamal O'Guinn brought him home on a grounder to second to break the scoreless tie in the fourth inning. USC would add their second run in the fifth, when Rhylan Thomas scored on a Fresno State error.
The Bulldogs broke through with a run in the eighth and threatened to do more damage with the bases loaded, but Nate Clow came in and got a groundout and pop fly to center to strand all three runners. Clow would pitch a perfect ninth, setting the side down in order to earn his third save of the year.
Toby Spach earned the win as the pitcher of record when USC went ahead in the fourth. He stranded one in the inning with a strikeout. Clow was the only USC pitcher to toss more than one inning on the night.
