The Women of Troy have won their last five consecutive season openers
LOS ANGELES – The 13th-ranked defending Pac-12 Champion USC lacrosse team (0-0) opens the 2021 season on the road at San Diego State (0-0) on Saturday, Feb. 13. In their 10th all-time meeting, the Trojans and Aztecs will clash for the front half of a home-and-home at Aztec Lacrosse Field in San Diego at 2 p.m. PT.
Under the direction of ninth-year head coach Lindsey Munday, the Women of Troy attempt to pick up where they left off when the COVID-19 world pandemic shut down competition last March. USC was undefeated at 6-0 and had earned three victories over ranked opponents but was unable to defend its league crown on the field.
The Trojans are without much of the 2020 senior class including All-American midfielder Kerrigan Miller and All-Pac-12 midfielder Kaeli Huff. The two elected to transfer to North Carolina and Stony Brook respectively to complete their educations and athletic eligibility. USC still returns plenty of firepower under senior captain Kelsey Huff, and will look to a stable of attackers in seniors Izzy McMahon and Sophia Donovan, and juniors Katie Ramsay and Erin Bakes. Defensively, USC will lean on senior goalie Riley Hertford who was chosen Pac-12 Player of the Week three times in 2020. The Trojans also get defender Natalie Byrne back for a fifth year as well as fellow senior defenders Lizzy Wagner and Madi O'Brien.
