Croix Bethune Scores Twice as No. 5 USC Women's Soccer Draws at Washington
October 24, 2021 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE, Wash. – Croix Bethune scored both goals as the No. 5 USC women's soccer team picked up a point with a 2-2 draw on a soggy day at Washington.
Both of Bethune's goals put USC ahead at the time, but the Huskies were able to equalize within minutes both times to force a draw. USC moves to 11-2-2 overall and 6-0-2 in Pac-12 play after a pair of ties on its Washington road trip. The Huskies move to 4-7-4 overall and 2-3-3 in conference action.
Playing on an already water-logged field in Seattle, the first half remained relatively dry as each team scored once. Bethune struck in the 31st minute, but Washington's Kyle Ferry equalized on the restart in the 32nd minute.
The skies opened up and heavy rain and wind marked the second half. Still, Bethune found her second goal of the day and 10th of the season in the 65th minute when she snuck one home to make it 2-1 USC. Just three minutes later it was McKenzie Weinert this time who found the game-tying goal for the home team.
USC had its chances late, hitting the post once, and then getting off three shots in the two overtimes, but the Trojans were unable to come up with the winner on the road.
USC owned a 20-16 shot advantage in the game and an 8-5 corner kick edge.
