1970s USC Men's Volleyball Star Randy Shaw Dies

LOS ANGELES—Randy Shaw, one of the star players on the nascent USC men's volleyball teams of the mid-1970s, died on Monday (Oct. 11) in Hawaii. He was 73.
After serving in the Air Force, Shaw played at USC in 1974 and 1975. The Trojans were 19-4 overall in 1974 and 10-8 in 1975, with both squads placing second in league play and advancing to the NCAA West Regional.
Shaw was a prominent indoor and beach player at the Outrigger Canoe Club in Honolulu, where he won numerous club and U.S. Volleyball Association national championships from 1970 to 2000. He was named a USVBA All-American 20 times. He played on the U.S. National Team in 1971. He also coached volleyball at the OCC.
For the past 20 years, he was a collegiate volleyball referee in Hawaii.
