USC Lacrosse Adds Transfer Michaela McMahon Ahead of 2021 Season
January 28, 2021 | Women's Lacrosse
The Penn transfer is the third McMahon sister to play for USC and joins current Trojan senior Izzy McMahon on the roster
LOS ANGELES – The USC lacrosse program has signed transfer midfielder Michaela McMahon (Bardonia, N.Y./Saddle River Day School) from the University of Pennsylvania, head coach Lindsey Munday announced on Monday (Jan. 25).
Â
"I am beyond thrilled to welcome another McMahon to the Trojan Lacrosse Family," said Munday. "Michaela will be able to play with her sister, Izzy, which is very special. She is a tremendous athlete who I believe will help our program right away. Michaela brings experience at the highest level, having played for the USA U19 team and winning gold; as well as at a great Ivy League program in Penn. We are very excited for her to join our team."
Â
McMahon is the younger sister of USC senior attacker Izzy McMahon (a former transfer from Army) and All-MPSF Trojan alumna Gabby McMahon (2014-17). She is also the fourth eldest of five McMahon sisters. Daniella McMahon is a fifth-year senior midfielder at Stanford and the youngest of the five sisters, Sophia McMahon, is a freshman midfielder for the Cardinal.
Â
Michaela McMahon won a gold medal at the 2019 U19 World Championship with Team USA and was a 2019 All-Ivy League honorable mention as a freshman. In 23 games, McMahon had 16 starts (11 as a freshman; five as a sophomore) and scored 29 goals with six assists for 35 career points with the Quakers. She produced a .309 shot percentage with a .691 shots-on-goal rate. McMahon notched a pair of game-winning goals and had 22 ground balls, 19 draw controls, and eight caused turnovers during her time with Penn.
Â
McMahon had eight multi-goal games with two hat tricks and reached a career high of four goals at Columbia on April 20, 2019. She scored from free position seven times and recorded a career-best five draw controls against Northwestern on March 31, 2019. McMahon was a 2018 US Lacrosse All-American and a 2016 Under Armour Underclassman All-American. She was named the 2018 North Jersey Player of the Year and was a multi-sport athlete in high school with letters in soccer and basketball.
Â
The Trojans were undefeated through six games (6-0) and were ranked seventh in the final IWLCA Coaches Poll of the 2020 season; shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. USC had produced a 5-0 record in home games and was 2-0 in the Pac-12. The Trojans' fifth win of the season was the 100th of now ninth-year head coach Lindsey Munday's career. She is 101-42 (.706) all-time with the Women of Troy. Munday's Trojans were the defending Pac-12 regular-season and tournament champion in 2019 and will have a chance to defend those titles in 2021.
