Entire USC Women’s Basketball Team Completes Voter Registration
August 14, 2020 | Women's Basketball, Features
The Women of Troy are committed to having a voice and a vote on Election Day.
Amidst a tumultuous summer, the USC women's basketball team has found a powerful way to set a course for themselves away from the gym. All 13 Women of Troy have registered to vote, marking an important benchmark for the program as the 2020 elections approach
"It means so much to all of us that our whole team is registered to vote this year," junior captain Desiree Caldwell said. "It is important because we know that all of our voices can make a difference, It's just about putting ourselves in a position to be heard. Now we can all do our part in influencing change in this country."
The team was empowered to take action toward 100 percent voter registration through the work of assistant coach Erin Grant, who is a member of Coaches 4 Change — a group of collegiate basketball coaches around the nation who are dedicated to social justice issues through focus on education, engagement, empowerment and evolution within their respective teams, campuses and communities.

"I am eager to continue educating myself, our staff and team about voting to impact change at the local and national levels," Grant said. "Collectively, we believe that there is so much to be done and we agreed to take action by registering. I'm proud of our student-athletes for their participation in one of many positive efforts."
Thanks to their 2020 registration, USC women's basketball will be able to have a voice in elections in five different states — Alaska, California, Oregon, Texas and Washington — in the 2020 elections and beyond.
