Trojans Nab ITA Academic Accolades
July 28, 2020 | Men's Tennis, Features
Men’s team earns ITA All-Academic Team honors; three Trojans earn ITA Scholar-Athlete awards.
Led by recently crowned Pac-12 Postgraduate Scholarship winner Rae Lan, the USC men's tennis team has landed ITA All-Academic Team honors to go with a trio of Trojans on the ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete list. Senior Rae Lan — boasting a perfect 4.0 — is joined by fellow senior Brandon Holt and freshman Colter Smith with 2019-20 Scholar-Athlete status from the ITA.
For senior Rae Lan, who worked his way from a role as team manager to a place on the active roster his final season at Troy, the ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete selection is added to a laundry list of academic accolades garnered by the Trojan. Lan is also a Rhodes Scholar candidate and was named the USC Neuroscience Outstanding Student of the Year. That goes along with a Global Scholar prize as well as Discovery Scholar Distinction and Dornsife Scholar honors for the highly decorated USC senior.
Senior Brandon Holt (business major) and freshman Colter Smith (undeclared) both posted 2019-20 GPAs of 3.5 or better to secure the first ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete status of their USC careers.
Thanks in large part to the highest GPA earned by a USC men's team in spring 2020 with a 3.72, Brett Masi's Trojan tennis squad combined academic forces to earn ITA All-Academic Team honors.
