McDaniel won the 2018 NCAA Championship as a sophomore attacker at James Madison
LOS ANGELES – The USC women's lacrosse team has added graduate transfer attacker Maddie McDaniel (Severna Park, Md./Severn School) ahead of the 2021 season head coach Lindsey Munday announced on Wednesday, July 15.
"We are very excited to have Maddie join our program," said Munday. "Her on-field skills speak loudly, and we expect her to make an immediate impact with her experience and leadership qualities. Maddie is a proven talent in the draw circle and is a strong presence on attack. We can see her fitting in with our offense in a big way."
McDaniel leaves James Madison after a stellar four-year career in which she helped the Dukes win the 2018 NCAA Championship as a sophomore. She was a 2019 IWLCA All-South Region second-team choice and was also chosen to the All-Colonial Athletic Association first team. McDaniel was named the Most Outstanding Performer and a member of the all-tournament team at the 2019 CAA Championship and holds single-season records in draw controls (127) at both JMU and in the CAA. Her 187-career draw controls ranks second all-time in Dukes history.
McDaniel served two seasons as a JMU team captain (2019-20) and was a four-time selection for the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. She appeared in 68 games for the Dukes and finished with career totals of 95 goals, seven assists, 102 points, seven game-winning goals, 33 ground balls, 19 caused turnovers, and 187 draw controls. McDaniel graduated with a degree in communication studies and will pursue a Master of Communication Management degree at USC's Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.
In high school, McDaniel was a two-time U.S. Lacrosse All-American and was chosen as an Under Armour Underclassman All-American as a junior. She graduated from the Severn School in Severna Park, Md.
The Women of Troy were undefeated through six games and ranked No. 7 in the final IWLCA Coaches Poll of 2020, shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. USC had produced a 5-0 mark in home games and was 2-0 in the Pac-12. The Trojans' fifth win of the season was the 100th of eighth-year head coach Lindsey Munday's career. She is 101-42 (.706) all-time with the Women of Troy. USC was the defending Pac-12 regular-season and tournament champion and will have a chance to defend that title in 2021.
