Brandon Holt Selected Senior Player Of The Year For ITA Southwest Region
May 19, 2020 | Men's Tennis, Features
It’s the third set of regional accolades for the standout Trojan.
In under four years as a Trojan, Brandon Holt has amassed a solid collection of wins, top rankings, titles and honors. The most recent award the senior adds to his trophy cabinet — the ITA Southwest Region's Senior Player of the Year — is his third regional end-of-year honor. Now in line for the national ITA Senior Player of the Year award, Holt has most certainly put himself in rightful reach of top honors. His body of work at the collegiate level saw him reach his highest national singles ranking at No. 4 in the land, and also has stood tall at No. 1 in the nation in doubles along the way.Â
In his senior season — shortened by the cancellation of competition due to the coronavirus pandemic — Holt opened up at No. 5 in the nation in singles. He'd collect a 9-3 singles record and 12-3 doubles mark, giving him career records of 91-30 in singles and 74-26 in doubles. Holt and his Trojans reached the pinnacle of regular-season competition with their run to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in February. In the fall, Holt swept singles and doubles titles at the Battle in the Bay and also claimed the ITA Southwest Regional Doubles Championship alongside partner Riley Smith.
A four-time ITA All-American, Holt was the Pac-12 Player of the Year last season, having opened his USC career as the Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year and the ITA Southwest Region Rookie of the Year. He's a three-time All-Pac-12 First Team honoree, and was the ITA Southwest Region Player To Watch in 2017.
The last Trojan to be named the ITA Southwest Region's Senior Player of the Year was Max de Vroome in 2016.
