Riley Hertford Receives Fifth-Career Pac-12 Weekly Award

The Trojans’ junior goalie Riley Hertford tied the conference record with her fifth weekly league award
SAN FRANCISCO – USC lacrosse junior goalie Riley Hertford (Lake Oswego, Ore.) was chosen as the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week for the week of March 2-8, the league announced on Monday, March 9.
Hertford receives her fifth-career Pac-12 weekly honor, which is most all-time among Women of Troy and now ties the conference record for career awards (Darby Kiernan, Colorado). Over the weekend, Hertford recorded her 21st and 22nd career victories as the Trojans remained undefeated on the season.
In a hard-fought game with league rival Stanford, she posted 11 saves against 29 shots faced and finished with a .478 save percentage to go with three caused turnovers and two ground balls. She provided a crucial stop with under four minutes to play that allowed the Women of Troy to secure a 13-12 win over the 25th-ranked Cardinal. In about 49 minutes of action against the Golden Bears, Hertford posted 10 saves against 14 shots for a .714 save percentage and had three ground balls and caused two turnovers.
The Pac-12 is in its third season of women's lacrosse. Trojans have earned conference weekly honors 16 times (11 defensive and five offensive) to lead the league. Colorado is next with 15, followed by Stanford (13), Arizona State (6), Oregon (3), and California (1).
USC players have swept the weekly awards on four occasions; and All-American midfielder Kerrigan Miller became the first player in league history to receive both the offensive (March 19, 2018) and defensive (March 11, 2019) awards in her career.
No. 7 USC (6-0, 2-0 Pac-12) will play Arizona State (5-3, 1-1) in Tempe, Ariz., on Friday (March 13) at 1 p.m. PT. The Trojans then return home to host No. 5-ranked Stony Brook for a Sunday matinee at McAlister Field at noon PT (March 15).
