Trojans Win 800y Free Pac-12 Title

Both USC relays finish in the top three to open the first day of competition.
The No. 8 Trojans opened the 2020 Pac-12 Women's Swimming and Diving Championships with fire, winning the 800y free relay and posting the nation's second fastest time on Wednesday night (Feb. 26) in Federal Way, Wash.
The Trojans head into today with 120 points after the two relays, tied for first with Cal, who won the 400y medley relay. Stanford sits in third (108), ASU (104) is fourth and followed by UCLA (98), Arizona (98), Washington State (90), Utah (90).
The Trojans kicked off their postseason by taking first in the 800y free relay as senior Louise Hansson, junior Jemma Schlicht, senior Tatum Wade, and sophomore Laticia Transom posted a 6:54.91. USC won the event by nearly two seconds to post the second fastest time in the country this season. Tonight's Pac-12 title is the fourth for the Women of Troy who won in 2003, 2010 and 2016.
Hansson's leadoff 200 free of 1:43.01 posted a season best to earn an NCAA B standard cut.
In the 400y medley relay, Transom, sophomore Isa Odgers, Hansson and junior Marta Ciesla touched second in 3:30.73 to earn an NCAA A cut and post a season best. Transom opened up the relay for the Women of Troy with a season best 53.37.
The Pac-12 men's diving championships, being held concurrently with the women's meet, opened with the 1-meter springboard competition. Results are still being tallied and will be announced Thursday.
The first full day of prelims is set for Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with finals at 6 p.m.
