USC Comeback Falls Short Against Broncos

The Trojans had the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the eighth but left all three on, and then scored in the ninth, but again left a pair of runners on to finish the game. Both teams move to 1-1 on the season and will play the rubber game tomorrow at 12 p.m.
A six-run seventh inning for the Broncos gave the visitors a 6-4 lead for good, as Western Michigan scored on three hits and a pair of Trojan errors. USC would come back with an RBI single from Tyler Pritchard in the seventh, but only came up with one more run the rest of the way. Western Michigan scored twice in the top of the ninth as well.
USC jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings and looked to be in good shape as starter Isaac Esqueda tossed 5.0 scoreless frames to open the game. Esqueda struck out six batters and walked two, while working around five hits. Tyler Lozano and Ben Wanger each had early RBI to give USC the lead.
Western Michigan finished with 12 hits and were led by Jimmy Allen who went 3-for-5 with two RBI. Allen had a two-run single in the critical seventh inning.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Isaac Esqueda threw 5.0 scoreless innings, giving up five hits and two walks, while striking out six.
- Carson Lambert tossed a scoreless sixth inning, striking out one batter.
- Ban Wanger was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.
- Jamal O'Guinn and Clay Owens each had two-hit games.
