Sears Sets USC Indoor High Jump Record At The Texas Tech Invitational

Earnest Sears III set the USC school record in winning the men's high jump, Isaiah Jewett won the men's 800m race and the women's 4x400m relay team was a title winner on the final day of action at the Texas Tech Invitational at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas today (Feb. 1).
- Sears III cleared 7-6.50 (2.30m) on his first attempt to set the USC indoor record and clinch the title today. Sears III had been clean through 7-3, then missed once at 7-5 before clearing that height on his second attempt. When he cleared the record-height of 7-6.50, he eliminated Trey Culver of Adidas, the only remaining jumper. Sears III then raised the bar to 7-7.75 (2.33m), but missed on his three attempts of tying for fourth on the all-time collegiate indoor high jump list.
- Jewett won the men's 800m race with a time of 1:47.12, not far off his USC record of 1:46.91 set last season. Matthew Myrtue had a time of 1:54.61 to finish 14th and Devin Bright had a PR of 1:55.24 to finish 15th and better his 10th place standing on the Trojans' all-time indoor 800m list.
- The women's 4x400m relay team of Bailey Lear, Kaelin Roberts, Anna Cockrell and Kyra Constantine won the first of five heats with a time of 3:32.87 which held up as the winner.
- Alyssa Brewer placed second in the women's 800m race with a time of 2:08.56. Kamryn Weber had a time of 2:16.44 to finish 10th in the women's 800m.
- The men's 4x400m relay team of Nicholas Ramey, Eric Allen Jr., Jewett and Brayden Borquez had a time of 3:08.40 to finish fourth in the first heat and overall. That time moved the quartet to eighth on USC's all-time indoor 4x400m list.
- Lanae-Tava Thomas had a time of 23.19 to finish fourth in the women's 200m dash out of 18 sections of runners. Other Trojans and their finish in the 200m were TeeTee Terry (6th, 23.41), Mecca McGlaston (11th, PR of 23.79). Chioma Okonkwo (25th, 24.34) and Jazmyne Frost (30th, 24.53).
- Brendon Stewart had a 200m PR of 21.18 to win the third heat and finish fifth overall. Stewart bettered his 10th place standing on USC's all-time list. Kenan Christon was third in his heat and 20th overall in the men's 200m dash with a time of 21.55 and Earvin da Silva was third in his heat and 28th overall with a time of 21.70.
- Cassidy Palka took forth in the women's "B" high jump with a best clearance of 5-7.00 (1.70m).
- Karlee Freeman had her best throw of the day of 46-11.50 (14.31m) in the women's shot put in the final round to jump from ninth to a sixth-place finish.
- Austin Allen took seventh in the men's "B" long jump with a season-best leap of 23-4.75 (7.13m). He landed that jump in his third attempt after two fouls, to advance to the finals where he had a best leap of 22-11.75 (7.00m).
- Thomas came back to place 12th in the women's long jump with a mark of 19-4.00 (5.89m). Thomas jumped 19-4, fouled, then hit 19-4 again. Six of the top 12 finishers were professionals or athletes competing unattached.
