USC Opens Strong At Tiger Paw Invitational & Husky Classic Today

Terry, Jakowec, Bultman, Constantine, Stewart & Cockrell among the first-day stars
TeeTee Terry tied for the women's 60m dash title at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, S.C. and Nathan Bultman won the men's weight throw and Nicolaus Jakowec bettered his school record in the 3000m race at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash. to lead the Trojans today (Feb. 14).

- TeeTee Terry finished in a dead heat with a time of 7.18 in the women's 60m dash final to tie for the victory. Terry reached the final by having the top time in the semifinal of 7.22 and the qualifying round of 7.25. Lanae-Tava Thomas placed 12th overall with a time of 7.33 in the semifinal. She advanced to the semifinal with a time of 7.41 in the qualifying round, which was good for 12th.Â
- Brendon Stewart took second in the men's 60m dash final with a PR of 6.58. His time bettered his third-place standing on USC's all-time list and was the best time among the college runners. USC had four runners advance to the semifinal of the men's 60m dash with Stewart having a time of 6.62 in that round, Alexander Barnum a season-best time of 6.69 to finish ninth by (.003), Daniel Robinson had has second 60m PR on the day of 6.78 to finish 15th as did Nick Moore who had PR of 6.89 to finish 24th. In the qualifying round Stewart had a time of 6.69, Barnum a time of 6.74, Robinson a time of 6.86, Moore a time of 6.90, Earvin da Silva a time of 6.92 (T-38th), Austin Allen a time of 6.98 (45th) and Zion Gordon a time of 7.10 (57th).
- Anna Cockrell placed second in the women's 60m hurdles final with a time of 8.01 (8.001), a whisker ahead of Mecca McGlaston that took third also with a time of 8.01 (8.004). The pair posted season-best times and were the top two college finishers.  Cockrell had a time of 8.04 (3rd) in the semifinal and 8.15 (4th) in the qualifying round, while McGlaston had a time of 8.08 (4th) in the semifinal and 8.19 (5th) in the qualifying round.
- Kyra Constantine placed second in the women's 400m by winning the first heat with a time of 52.14, her first 400m race of the season. Bailey Lear was second in her heat and fifth overall with a PR of 52.52 which moved her from ninth to tied for seventh on USC's all-time list. Kaelin Roberts had a season-best time of 52.82 to take second in her heat and ninth overall, Nicole Yeargin competing unattached took second in her heat and 27th overall with a time of 54.72, Breanna Bernard-Joseph was third in her heat and 29th overall with a PR of 54.88, Chioma Okonkwo won her heat and finished 40th with a time of 56.10 and Kenya Payne had a PR of 56.86 to place 5th in her heat and 47th overall.
- In the men's 400m race, Cameron Samuel ran his first 400m race of the season and had a time of 48.15 to take third in his heat and 32nd overall, Brayden Borquez had a PR of 48.23 to take second in his heat and 33rd overall which moved him to 10th on USC's all-time list, Noah Green had a time of 48.59 to win his heat and finish 43rd overall and Nicholas Ramey stumbled in his heat, but back up to finish with a time of 60.11, good for 68th overall.
- Gordon also ran in the men's 60m hurdles qualifying round and had a time of 8.44 to finish 33rd overall.
- Austin Allen had a PR of 24-5.00 (7.44m) to place seventh in the men's long jump. He qualified for the final round, but did not jump in the final. Jalyn Jackson had a best jump of 23-4.75 (7.13m) to finish 15th.
- Nathan Bultman's first throw of 72-7.25 (21.13m) won him the weight throw competition by more than two feet. Bultman had a great series with three of his five throws eclipsing 70 feet. Jason Kim took 18th with a PR of 52-8.75 (16.07m). All three of his throws on the day surpassed his previous career best.
- Nicolaus Jakowec won the third heat of the men's 3000m race with a school-record time of 8:06.97, besting his school standard of 8:09.77 set last season. Jakowec finished 27th overall.
- Joy McArthur finished fifth in the women's weight throw with a best mark of 61-0.25 (18.60m) and Karlee Freeman took 12th with a PR of 55-3.00 (16.84m). Freeman's throw moved her from sixth to fifth on USC's all-time list in the event. She had the top throw in the first flight.
