August 29, 2019 | Women's Soccer, Features
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The No. 5 USC women's soccer team came away with a 3-1 win over Florida at Banc of California Stadium on Thursday night.
The Trojans got two goals from Tara McKeown to move to 3-0 on the season and win the first of two big matchups with schools from the Sunshine State this week. USC heads to UCLA on Sunday to face No. 1 Florida State.
After the Trojans missed a couple of promising chances early, McKeown broke open the scoring in the 30th minute when she collected a ball in traffic deep in the box and poked it home. It would be Arlie Jones just over five minutes later sending home a rebound to put the Trojans up two.
Florida would answer just before the half, getting a long shot from Alex Stubblebine, but that was it for the Gators on the night. McKeown would pick up her second goal of the day and fourth of the season in the 60th minute.
GOALS
30' – USC: Tara McKeown (assisted by Alea Hyatt) – Hyatt sent in a free kick from deep near the endline on the left side and McKeown collected it in the midst of a scrum, then slotted it home inside the right post.
36' – USC: Arlie Jones (assisted by Savianna Gomez) – Gomez fired off a shot near the top of the box that was saved, but Jones was there to pounce on the rebound and score.
42' – FLA: Alex Stubblebine (assisted by Deanne Rose) – Rose sent the ball to Stubblebine near the top of the box and Stubblebine sent a long shot inside the upper left corner.
60' – USC: Tara McKeown (assisted by Penelope Hocking) – Hocking slid a ball into the box to a cutting McKeown, who tracked it down and beat the keeper to the far post.
