USC Wins 105-83 Over Lithuanian Select Team In Paris

Trojans finish 3-0 on foreign tour to Spain & France
PARIS, FRANCE – – USC closed out its summer foreign tour to Spain and France with a 105-83 win over a Lithuanian Select team at Tony Parker Gymnasium at the Institut National du Sport in Paris, France today (Aug. 14). All seven Trojans who played scored in double figures, led by freshman Onyeka Okongwu with 22. USC went 3-0 on the trip, also beating a Spanish Select team 102-51 on Aug. 8 and a French Select team 90-67 on Aug. 11.
USC made 54.9 percent of its shots, including 37.0 percent from three-point range, while holding the Lithuanians to 38.4 percent shooting, including 31.4 percent from three-point range. The game was fairly close throughout with USC holding a seven-point advantage after three quarters, before putting the Lithuanian Select team away for good in the final quarter.
USC trailed 19-13 with 3:52 remaining in the first quarter when head coach Andy Enfield called a timeout. Eleven of USC's first 13 points were scored by freshman. Sophomore Elijah Weaver then took over for the Trojans, scoring the team's next nine points by hitting two three-pointers and completing a three-point play. When redshirt senior Quinton Adlesh nailed a three-pointer to end the first quarter, his first of six in the game, USC had cut the deficit to 28-25.
The Trojans started the second quarter with a dunk by Weaver, a jumper by senior Nick Rakocevic and one of two free throws by Rakocevic to take a 30-28 lead. After a Lithuanian three-pointer took the lead back at 31-30, Adlesh answered with a three from the wing to put the Trojans up for good. USC followed that up with a floater in the lane by Weaver, a dunk by Rakocevic and a dunk by Okongwu to take a 39-31 lead which forced a Lithuanian timeout. After USC's lead was cut to 41-39, the Trojans finished the half on a 7-0 run which included a three-pointer by Adlesh, a pair of free throws by freshman Ethan Anderson and a dunk at the buzzer by Rakocevic on a feed by Anderson. Weaver led USC at halftime with 15 points.
Lithuania hit a three-pointer to start the second half to cut the Trojans' lead to six, but USC responded with an 8-0 run which featured a dunk by Okongwu, a layup by Anderson, a jumper and a dunk by freshman Max Agbonkpolo to open up a 56-42 lead. Lithuania got as close as four points at 63-59, but USC built the lead back to seven points at the end of the quarter at 70-63. All but one of USC's 22 points in the third quarter came from the freshman, including 12 from Okongwu.
Twice in the final quarter Lithuania cut the Trojans' lead to five points at 70-65 and 72-67, but a three-pointer by freshman Kyle Sturdivant ignited an 11-0 run and the Trojans never looked back. Sturdivant scored nine of his 11 points in the second half and made all five of his free throw attempts, improving him to a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line on the trip.
Scoring for USC today was as follows: Onyeka Okongwu (22), Quinton Adlesh (18), Max Agbonkpolo (15), Elijah Weaver (15), Ethan Anderson (12), Nick Rakocevic (12) and Kyle Sturdivant (11).
Charles O'Bannon junior did not play on the trip due to a high ankle sprain and Daniel Utomi (food poisoning) and Jonah Mathews (knee) were held out today as a precaution.
USC will take a boat tour of the Seine River tonight and have a free day to explore the grandeur of Paris, before heading home to the United States on Aug. 16.
